Sensing Quantum Conversations

Saturday 20 June, 14:30 – 17:30Laure Prouvost | Grand Palais, Nef Sud
Laure Prouvost’s We Felt A Star Dying at the Grand Palais in Paris. A monumental, cloud-like installation made of delicate white mesh floats beneath the historic glass roof, unfolding in organic forms that evoke movement, cosmic matter and imagination.

On the occasion of Laure Prouvost’s exhibition Nous, frissons d’étoiles (Eng. We Felt a Star Dying) at Grand Palais, LAS Art Foundation presents an afternoon of conversations exploring the evolving landscape of quantum technologies. As the lead commissioning institution for the project, LAS worked closely with Prouvost on the development of the project, bringing her into dialogue with a prominent quantum scientist and philosopher.

This programme brings together perspectives from quantum science, artistic practice and public policy to explore how emerging quantum technologies are being developed and understood across society. It spans presentations on the quickly evolving industry, sensory and imaginative approaches to quantum concepts, and questions of ethics, access and governance. Throughout, the programme considers both the possibilities and responsibilities that emerge as quantum systems move from the microscopic realm into everyday life.

Programme:
14:30 Welcome by Bettina Kames (CEO and Co-Founder, LAS Art Foundation)
14:40 Introductory Keynote by Wasiq Bokhari (CEO, Pasqal)
15:00 Entangling Cute Bits: Laure Prouvost (Artist) in conversation with Carly Whitefield (Head of Programme, LAS Art Foundation)
16:00 Quantum Governance: Who Benefits from New Technologies?:
Ian Walmsley (Director, Oxford Quantum Institute) in conversation with Agnessa Schmudke (Assistant Curator, Lead Live and Outreach Programmes, LAS Art Foundation)

The conversations are part of LAS’s ongoing Sensing Quantum programme, launched in February 2025 with the first presentation of Laure Prouvost: WE FELT A STAR DYING at Kraftwerk Berlin alongside a sound lab exploring the creative application of quantum technologies and a learning programme. This was followed by a symposium and a second major commission.

We warmly invite you to join us on Saturday 20 June, from 14:30 – 17:30, for an afternoon of conversations at Grand Palais. The event is free and open to all, with limited capacity. Please register by emailing rsvp@las-art.foundation. We look forward to welcoming you.
