On the occasion of Laure Prouvost’s exhibition Nous, frissons d’étoiles (Eng. We Felt a Star Dying) at Grand Palais, LAS Art Foundation presents in collaboration with GrandPalaisRmn an afternoon of conversations exploring the evolving landscape of quantum technologies. As the lead commissioning institution, LAS worked closely with Prouvost on the development of the project, bringing her into dialogue with a prominent quantum scientist and philosopher.

This programme brings together perspectives from quantum science, artistic practice and public policy to explore how emerging quantum technologies are being developed and understood across society. It spans presentations on the quickly evolving industry, sensory and imaginative approaches to quantum concepts, and questions of ethics, access and governance. Throughout, the programme considers both the possibilities and responsibilities that emerge as quantum systems move from the microscopic realm into everyday life.

The keynote addresses current developments in quantum technologies and explores the opportunities and challenges likely to shape the field in the years ahead. Followed by a Q&A.

15:15 Entangling Cute Bits: Laure Prouvost (Artist) in conversation with Carly Whitefield (Head of Programme, LAS Art Foundation)

Prouvost shares insights into the development of her project and her engagement with quantum phenomena, sparked by a visit to a quantum computing laboratory in California. Followed by a Q&A.

16:15 Quantum Thinking: From Physical Principles to Technological Futures:
Ian Walmsley (Director, Oxford Quantum Institute) in conversation with Agnessa Schmudke (Assistant Curator, Lead Live and Outreach Programmes, LAS Art Foundation)

The talk bridges conceptual, scientific and policy perspectives to explore how quantum mechanics has become the foundation of some of the most transformative technologies today. How can we ensure that their continued development is guided by public interests? Followed by a Q&A.

The conversations are part of LAS’s ongoing Sensing Quantum programme, launched in February 2025 with the first presentation of Laure Prouvost: WE FELT A STAR DYING at Kraftwerk Berlin alongside a sound lab exploring the creative application of quantum technologies and a learning programme. This was followed by a symposium and a second major commission.
