Panel Conversation: An experimental journey through quantum futures

Panel conversation with Libby Heaney (Artist and Quantum Physicist), Freeke Heijman (Quantum Delta NL), Richard Murray (ORCA Computing) and Christian Ospelkaus (Professor for Experimental Physics at Leibniz Universität Hannover and German National Institute of Metrology Braunschweig), moderated by Matyas Kovacs (futurehain)

On the occasion of this year’s Berlin Gallery Weekend, LAS and futurehain host a panel conversation on quantum futures featuring world-leading experts. This interactive session is guided by a collective decision-making prompt on the question of ‘quantum futures’ that is fed by experts and the audience alike.

Quantum technologies are leaping from science labs to industry and society, yet it remains hard to imagine how the forthcoming breakthroughs are going to impact our lives. In order to generate an exploratory and at the same time easily comprehensible conversation about quantum computing, LAS and futurehain are bringing a participant-driven format to life.

Titled CASQADES, the interactive one-hour programme invites participants on-site to join in an exploration of possible futures unleashed by quantum technologies. Inspired by the futurist scenario-planning game "The Thing from the Future", the collective experimental conversation playfully investigates quantum computing and its cascading effects on various time horizons and areas as well as societal scenarios and points-of-view.

The exhibition Ent- by artist and quantum physicist Libby Heaney serves as the departure point and continuous inspiration for the conversation. Heaney is joined by Freeke Heijman (Quantum Delta NL), Richard Murray (ORCA Computing) and Christian Ospelkaus (Professor for Experimental Physics at Leibniz Universität Hannover and German National Institute of Metrology in Braunschweig) for the exploration.

A series of live programming around Libby Heaney's new commission Ent- with artists, musicians, key leaders from the world of quantum

On the occasion of Libby Heaney's solo exhibition Ent-, LAS and the Schering Stiftung join forces to present a series of talks and live events to take place in the closing month of the show. Through a variety of formats, the programme brings together voices from the fields of art and science, and tackles the complexities of future quantum technologies. By fostering interdisciplinary bridges, the events further Heaney’s ambition to build a collective understanding of the potentials of the quantum age.
