Artists have been creating internet-based works since the invention of the World Wide Web, with antecedents in telematic art. Today’s landscape of web-based work ranges widely, including digital media, interactive games and augmented reality applications.

Since its inception, LAS has presented web-based works, including new commissions IRL, Emotional Futures; Judy Chicago, Rainbow AR; and Jakob Kudsk Steensen, Berl-Berl. In 2024 LAS launched a web-based commission series, for which it invited curator Dr Barbara Cueto to develop a collaboration between science fiction writers and visual artists, challenging them to create new, surprising and unconventional visions of our future.
