Panel Discussion: AI: Intentions, Protocols and Power
Co-convened by LAS Art Foundation, Amos Rex and the University of Oxford’s Laboratory for Human-Centred AI, the panel brought together five distinct voices from the arts, academy and industry to unpack the shifting dynamics of agency, trust and creative production in the age of generative technologies
How does the collapse between intention and implementation reshape our society?
Moderated by Professor Philipp Koralus (HAI Lab at the University of Oxford), this panel discussion examines the practical, ethical and creative changes brought about by recent developments in artificial intelligence. Featuring insights from senior software engineer Peter Danenberg (Google DeepMind), philosopher Linda Eggert (Stanford University), Taiwan’s former cyber ambassador Audrey Tang and artist Mat Dryhurst, the talk explores how both builders, thinkers and governments navigate these tools. The conversation balances the constructive possibilities of AI, such as its ability to help make connections between individual initiatives and facilitate deeper participation in democratic systems, against real risks like over-reliance on platforms, shifts in power dynamics and lags in policy.
