For visitors who need more information about the sensory load of the installation
Please note that the installation features a reflective floor and is illuminated with red light, which may be disorienting for some visitors. At certain moments in the video loop, the lights flash. Some sounds may be challenging for individuals with auditory sensitivity, as they are spatialised across the installation. Additionally, certain sequences may cause sensory stress for those sensitive to moving patterns. You may notice a light latex smell near the latex curtains and a mild PVC smell when entering through the PVC curtains.
Earplugs are available at the entrance.
Is there specific safety information for the exhibition?
The video is a fictional work set in Cold War-era Indonesia, and follows a resistance fighter in the Permesta movement. It contains scenes of stylised violence, including target practice with a knife and darts, and a character repeatedly firing a weapon, including toward the camera. There is a graphic moment in which another character’s ear is cut off, with infrared imaging used as a filter. The video also includes surreal and sexually explicit imagery, such as a scene of a character giving birth to a beam of light through a prop of a toothed vagina (vagina dentata).
The installation is located on the ground floor of Ateneo Veneto. Visitors are free to move through the space and explore its individual elements. The LED wall presenting the artist’s video is integrated into a room-within-a-room structure and is encircled by a ramp. This ramp offers multiple vantage points from which to experience the work, allowing visitors to view both the projected figures from Natasha Tontey’s work and the existing paintings on the upper walls and ceiling of Ateneo Veneto.
The space is flooded with red light and the floor is reflective. The installation includes occasional flashing lights.
The video has a duration of approximately 20 minutes. Visitors may either sit on the floor or bring folding stools into the installation.
If you have any questions about the artwork in advance, please contact us anytime at visit@las-art.foundation or museum@amosrex.fi.
